Shift AI went live with AI Chat and the Intelligent Omnibox built right into the browser. That was just over a week ago. Since then, we've already shipped five new features that make it faster, more personal, and more useful. Here's what's new and why it matters.
The Intelligent Omnipill: One click, no thinking required
Most AI in browser experiences work the same way. You open a chat panel, think of a prompt, type it out, and wait. The burden is on you to know what to ask and when to ask it.
The Intelligent Omnipill flips that. It's a contextual suggestion that appears directly in your address bar based on the page you're currently viewing. Land on a recipe site and it offers to extract the ingredients. Open a job listing and it pulls the key details. Pull up a news article and it offers a summary. One click, no prompt needed. No other browser does this.
It works across 56 content types including GitHub, Gmail, YouTube, shopping sites, travel pages, and more. And it's built to stay out of your way. Dismiss a suggestion once and it won't pop up again. A few examples of what this looks like in practice:
- You're reading a long article before a meeting. The Omnipill offers a summary before you even think to ask for one.
- You're browsing a travel site comparing flights. It surfaces the key details without you opening a separate chat.
- You're on a GitHub repo trying to get up to speed. It offers context on what you're looking at instantly.
This is the clearest example of what it means to have AI woven into the browsing experience rather than sitting beside it.
Build your own AI shortcuts with Skills
If you find yourself typing the same kinds of prompts over and over, Skills are built for you. They're reusable slash commands you create inside AI Chat, each one made up of a name and a prompt. Type / in the chat and your saved Skills appear in a searchable menu, ready to run in one click.
Skills are also context-aware. They can pull in the content of whatever page you're on or text you've highlighted, so they work with what's already in front of you. A few ways people might use them:
- /summarize to condense whatever page you're viewing
- /draft-reply to generate a response based on on-screen content
- /fact-check to verify claims on the current page
No technical setup, no coding. If you can write a prompt, you can build a customizable AI assistant that works the way you do.

Shift AI: intelligence that meets you where you are
Most AI tools ask you to leave what you're doing, switch tabs, and start over. Shift AI stays where you already are, built into the browser, private by design, and always in your control.

One of the more subtle frustrations with AI tools is how much repetition they require. Every new conversation, you're re-explaining your role, your preferences, how you like responses formatted. It adds up.
AI Chat Memory fixes that. You manually save specific pieces of information once and the AI carries them as context into every conversation going forward. It builds on the existing "About You" settings, your name, role, and response style preferences. Teach it the basics once and you won't have to repeat yourself again.
Generate images without leaving your browser
Creative work usually means juggling multiple tools. You write in one place, generate visuals in another, and spend more time switching contexts than actually making things. With image generation now built into AI Chat, that changes.
Describe what you want and the image generates inline in the conversation, no pop-ups, no redirects. A progressive preview loads as it's being created, the final image lands right in the chat, and you can download it with one click. Generated images stay in your chat history, so they're there when you come back. You can also keep the conversation going after, ask follow-ups, make adjustments, or generate more. It's a straightforward addition to what it means to have a true AI image generator in browser.

AI is only useful if it fits how you work. The new Advanced Settings panel gives you direct control: toggle Intelligent Omnipills on or off, choose which sources power the Intelligent Omnibox (history, bookmarks, open tabs, search suggestions, and more), and restore defaults anytime. Quick access to AI Chat settings lives in the same place. These are the kinds of AI settings that make a feature feel trustworthy rather than intrusive.
The bigger picture
Shortly after launch and Shift AI already does more than it did on day one. Each of these five updates solves something specific: repetition, manual prompting, context switching, creative work, and control. Together they make the AI feel less like a feature you manage and more like part of how you work.
If you haven't tried Shift Browser yet, now's a good time to see what it actually feels like. Bring your tools together, build your layout, and let the AI fit around it.
