What is Monarch Money?

Monarch Money is a subscription-based personal finance platform that brings bank accounts, credit cards, investments, loans, cryptocurrency holdings, and other financial accounts into a consolidated dashboard. It is designed for individuals and households that want to track transactions, spending, budgets, recurring expenses, financial goals, and net worth from one service.

Monarch automatically imports and categorizes transactions from supported connected institutions and provides both category-based and Flex budgeting methods. It also supports recurring transaction and subscription tracking, manual accounts, custom transaction rules, CSV exports, investment tracking, household collaboration, and AI-assisted financial insights. Account connectivity and available data depend on the financial institution and data provider used for the connection.

How Monarch Money works in Shift

Add Monarch Money from the Shift App Directory to give it a dedicated app tile in the Shift sidebar. Sign in to Monarch, then create a Space for a recurring workflow such as monthly budgeting, bill review, investment tracking, or financial planning.

For example, create a monthly review Space with Monarch Money, Google Sheets or Excel, and your other financial tools. Open Monarch's Transactions or Budget view from its app tile and keep a spreadsheet alongside it using a side-by-side view. You can review categorized transactions in Monarch while updating a separate spreadsheet, checking expense records, or working with exported CSV data.

For goal planning, open Monarch's Goals or Net Worth section and keep it alongside a spreadsheet or another planning tool used for the same review. You can pin the relevant apps to the Space so the same set of tools remains available for future check-ins. Focus Mode can limit the visible workspace to that financial-planning Space while you review accounts and transactions.

Shift's multi-account functionality can keep separate supported Monarch logins signed in when you need access to different accounts or household environments. Session persistence keeps supported signed-in sessions available after restarting Shift. Authentication requirements from Monarch or connected financial institutions, including verification prompts or account reconnections, continue to apply within Shift.
