Pride Month is a time to amplify the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community, celebrate their fight for equality, and draw attention to the injustices that members still face today. Unfortunately, pride celebrations look a little different this year, with many of these events taking place virtually and the halt of parades. But despite this shift, it is still vital to celebrate the work of LGBTQIA+ activists and educate one another on the history of oppression in this community.

June has been celebrated as Pride Month since the Stonewall Uprising in 1969, a gay liberation movement that fought for LGBTQIA+ rights. Riots and protests ensued in the city of New York, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community filled the streets to have their voices heard. The Stonewall riots brought more attention to LGBTQIA+ activists and sparked a change in many lives; however, there is still work to be done. Today, there is immense concern for the lives of transgender men and women, as violence against this group has held steady for many years.

This year, we have decided to round up pride resources to spread awareness about the history of June celebrations and learn how to be allies of the LGBTQIA+ community. We celebrate to honor those who changed our world and to remember “The Fight Continues.”
