It’s official. We’re carbon-neutral.

The climate crisis was never something we could be neutral about, not when browsers are part of the technology pipeline growing the world’s digital carbon footprint. As of 2025, our business operations and browsing in Shift are carbon-neutral.

And we’re just getting started

As a Climate Action Partner with Synergy Enterprises, we’re conducting continual GHG accounting and developing a reduction strategy aligned with the highest global standards.

Building carbon-neutral browsing

In 2025, we launched the Carbon Meter within Shift as part of our promise to help you reimagine what browsers can do—for you and the planet.

Carbon-neutral browsing

“Less internet” won’t work

By making digital emissions visible, our goal is to raise awareness, not create guilt. Digital use isn’t going down. But we can show big browsers there’s a demand for reducing our digital carbon footprint.

Our journey to carbon neutrality

  • 2024

    Establishing our carbon baseline

In 2024, we completed our second annual Greenhouse Gas Inventory (GHG), marking a significant step in our sustainability efforts. This year serves as our baseline for future carbon reduction goals.

    Total Carbon Footprint: 2,272 tCO₂e

  • 2025

    Supporting carbon offset projects

In 2025, we’re taking action to mitigate our environmental impact through strategic carbon offset initiatives. In partnership with Carbonzero, we’re supporting certified projects that reduce or remove greenhouse gas emissions.

    Planning our reduction strategy

In collaboration with Synergy Enterprises, we’ve developed a set of clear, actionable targets building on the insights gathered through our annual greenhouse gas inventories.

  • 2026

    Executing our reduction strategy

Aligning with all the groundwork we’ve done with Synergy Enterprises, we’ll start strategically cutting emissions from Shift’s operational and online footprint.

Launching our first annual impact report

As part of our commitment to environmental transparency, our first impact report will publish our current carbon impact and outline how we can improve.

The Shift Impact Grant

We want to support initiatives creating a meaningful and measurable environmental impact. That’s why we launched the Shift Impact Grant, a $25,000 USD annual grant to help sustainable projects get liftoff.
