How Much is a Nissan Rogue? Models, Price and Reviews
When it comes to this crossover SUV, saying Nissan has “gone rogue” is just too simple of an understatement.
With loads of interior room for both passengers and cargo, a sleek aesthetic throughout the cabin, decent fuel efficiency and an overall fun experience behind the wheel, all in all the Nissan Rogue is a solid contender in the world of small utility vehicles.
Not only is it one of the more popular compact utility vehicles on the road these days, the Rogue currently reigns as Nissan's top-selling model, too.
It offers a broad menu of amenities both standard and upgradable. It outperforms nearly all of its rivals in terms of cargo space, with 74 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down, and it sports plenty of room for up to five passengers spread across its two rows of inviting seats.
The Rogue is a tempting alternative to other leaders in its class like the Honda CR-V, the Hyundai Tucson, the Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota RAV4. But all five are worth considering if you're looking for a sensible yet stylish crossover SUV.
How has the Nissan Rogue changed since it was first released?
First introduced in 2008 as a roundish crossover, these days the Rogue sports a more angular look and higher-quality materials that gives it an all-around more contemporary, elegant feel.
Early-year Rogues made extensive use of low-cost, harsh plastics. But now, upper-trim Rogues are almost on par with Nissan's luxury line, Infiniti, thanks to all the sleek and stylish upgrades on the Platinum edition that include upmarket features such a digital instrument panel, quilted leather seats and vibe-inducing interior mood lighting.
A more energetic engine that offers a total of 181 horsepower, a reworked transmission and an overall lighter curb weight make the new Rogue a bit more playful to experience from behind the wheel, too.
Since Nissan debuted the Rogue more than a decade ago, it has gradually been updated over the years. Most recently, the 2021 edition received a complete makeover both inside and out, bumping it up in terms of performance and aesthetics to be more competitive with rival compact crossover SUVs.
Before that, in 2017, the Rogue received a reworked interior and exterior, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection and adaptive cruise control to maximize fuel efficiency.
Models manufactured prior to 2018 came with the option of a third row of seating, a feature Nissan decided to nix altogether. The 2018 Rogue was the first to receive Apple Car and Android Auto, and the 2019 successor received lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection and automatic high-beam headlights as standard features. Reverse automatic emergency braking and rear parking sensors are offered as optional upgrades on the 2019 Rogue, too.

What type of trim options does the Nissan Rogue have?
Nissan manufactures the Rogue in four different trim variants, the base-model S, SV, SL and Platinum. Regardless of the trim, all versions are equipped with a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine with a total of 181 horsepower that's neither too sluggish nor too peppy and a continuously variable automatic transmission, too. Each edition comes standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available for an additional cost on each level, too.
One of the major perks of the Rogue's powertrain is its impressive gas mileage. The Rogue – with its standard FWD drivetrain – allows for 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the freeway. The AWD variants perform similarly, traveling up to 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the freeway.
How does the price of a new Nissan Rogue compare to a used one?
New Nissan Rogues start at $25,750, which is slightly higher compared to other compact SUVs. The higher trim levels – the SV, SL and Platinum variants – start at $27,500, $32,000, and $35,500 respectively. Each trim comes available with AWD for an additional $1,400.
Each variant of the Rogue has plenty to offer both in terms of performance and aesthetic. But experts tend to agree, the SV trim takes the cake. Priced only slightly higher than the base model, it includes an impressive amount of upgrades such as the ProPilot Assist with adaptive cruise control and lane-departure monitoring systems.
And depending on the model year and trim level, used Rogues can bring even more savings. S models can be found for as little as $11,000, while SL and SV models hover just slightly higher – $16,000-$25,000 – and come with an impressive amount of additional features, too.
What sort of safety and tech features does the Nissan Rogue have?
Nissan updated its in-house driver assistance system – ProPilot Assist – to now include navigation-linked adaptive cruise control, allowing the vehicle to slow itself before entering curves in the road.
Standard on the base S model are LED headlights, two USB ports and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite radio, too.
Standard on the base S model are a slew of safety systems that are collectively known as Nissan Safety Shield: forward-collision prevention, lane-departure assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking and rear-passenger safe exit, too.
Stepping up to the Rogue SV edition brings additional features such as remote engine start, keyless entry and ignition and a 360-degree camera system, which comes in handy when sliding into snug parking situations.
Moving up to the SL trim brings an in-house navigation system, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview mirror that dims automatically, remote release levers for the back bench and a dual-panel cargo floor to allow for a few extra inches of clearance in the cargo bay if needed.
What type of upgrades are available on the Nissan Rogue?
The SV trim includes a few cosmetic upgrades as well, including 18-inch alloy wheels as opposed to the base model's 17-inchers, six-speaker sound system, a total of four USB ports, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a power liftgate, a panoramic sunroof that stretches across the majority of the roof to allow for maximum daylight to enter, a heated leather steering wheel and heated front seats, too.
In terms of added looks and tech upgrades, the SL offers sporty 19-inch alloys, a 9-inch infotainment interface, voice controls and a boisterous 10-speaker Bose sound system.
The Rogue Platinum edition includes all of the above plus a digital instrument panel, heated back seats, leather upholstery throughout the entire vehicle and a wireless charging pad to allow riders to juice up their devices without having to plug them in to a USB port.
Remember, although the base model of the Rogue is outfitted with an impressive amount of safety features, the SV trim offers a lot more for just a slightly steeper price tag.
