The very first vehicle by Toyota luxury label Lexus was the LS sedan, released in 1989. Just two years later, in 1991, Lexus surpassed BMW as the most popular luxury import in the United States. In the following years, the brand steadily broadened its lineup to include sedans, coupes, convertibles and SUVs, all of which cater to drivers looking for a refined experience behind the wheel.

These days, now more than 30 years later, the full Lexus roster consists of 10 different vehicles altogether with various trim levels, many of which are now also available as hybrids.

The base model LS is built with seating for five. The front seats are fantastic, with the driver and co-pilot enjoying chairs that feature either 16 or 28 standard power adjustments, as well as heating and ventilation. Lexus also packs on the accessories for the back of the vehicle, too, with memory settings, massaging features and heating available in 18- or 22-way power adjustments, a 7-inch touch screen for controlling audio and other car settings and a rear passenger-side footrest.

The Lexus LS 500 is outfitted with a 416-horsepower twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which is the highest horsepower for a basic engine in the class. This peppy motor moves the sizable LS with ease, accelerating the car quickly from zero to 60 mph via a 10-speed automatic transmission. The 500 trim also comes available in all-wheel-drive.

In terms of fuel economy, the LS 500 achieves 18 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway with standard rear-wheel drive, whereas the AWD option delivers 17 mpg and 27 mpg, respectively.

These days, a new Lexus LS starts at $76,000, which is significantly lower than the starting price of many of its competitors. But if you think that’s a steal, buckle up for even more good news. Used 2012 Lexus LS models, for example, can be found for just under $24,000, making for a savings of more than $50,000. That just goes to show how incredible of a value a used Lexus can be compared to a new one.

All in all, the 2021 RX is a terrific package, with one of the lowest base costs in its class and a hefty amount of standard equipment.
